  • Unfortunately waited too long. Cork just crumbled when I went to open it. Undrinkable. Thought it would be good for at least a few more months but sadly, no.

  • Some progression on the colour - more claret than purple and with a little brick-colour emerging at the rim.
Restrained nose, with some cigar overlaying the subtle but rich fruit.

On the palate, again more restrained than might be expected, but actually with class in that restraint, together with a long finish. Acidity relatively pronounced, but it doesn't stick out. Some residual tannins but they're not getting in the way.

Whilst the previous bottle suggested a decent classed growth claret, this seems to speak more of Italy and indeed even though Sangiovese is but a part of the blend, it comes across as having the most influence.

All in all very good indeed. Priced up with a good Brunello or a very good Chianti, it does certainly hold it's own.

  • Still deep in colour, but now claret rather than purple in colour, though there is little bricking at the rim.
Vibrant on the nose, though the aromas shout Bordeaux rather than the grape mix would suggest. Dusty tobacco, coffee and a little green pepper (ok this latter element could be Cab Franc at play). It's also a little plummy.
On the palate, there is probably a little more cherry than you'd expect from Bordeaux, plus good but integrated acidity and background tannins that keep it in shape, yet blind I reckon I would have been fooled.
All in all a good wine, still with structure, but also good complexity. My gripe is that I'd expected this to develop into something less international, as it feels like a good Bordeaux copy (maybe decent classed growth level), not Italian, let alone Emilian.

  • Tasted at the winery (but not 100% certain of the vintage as for some reason we didn't scribble it down. This was the vintage we bought, so I think it's probably correct).

A blend of Sangiovese, (Uva) Lungarese and Cabernet Franc.

Good strong, deep colour. Great complex nose with blackcurrant and touch of herb and great intensity.
There's an enjoyable spiciness on the palate, which has great length and well-judged acidity. The tannins are fine and there's a mouth-filling quality to this wine.

  • Enjoyed, better than expected, recommended by local wine shop and I was surprised
