  • Showing as would be expected, complex nose of black and blue fruits with secondary notes of cassis and earthy bramble. A ripe style without the alcohol, good stuff

  • Nose: The nose is savory and brooding, yet with a lift to it along with dark red cherries, roasted herbs, licorice, dried roses, earth, and leather.

Taste: Full bodied with chewy tannins and medium+ acidity. The structure is still quite youthful with licorice, dark red cherries, dried roses, earth, violets, and tobacco.

Overall: This was somewhat confusing blind. But, it's still a lovely and youthful wine.

  • Not nearly as lush as it has been in the past. The freshness has gone. Still good after a decant, but not near as good as the last bottle.

  • I purchased this wine upon its release back in 2001 and lugged it around the country for the past 13 years or so... have always loved wines from this region and this exceeded our expectations -- great aromatic complexity here: exquisite dusted cherry fruit, plum, licorice, cocoa, spice, leather, some earthy notes and it worked extremely well with pork ribs -- with each bite of meat, this wine was singing! It shows its age with a prominent orange ring, lighter weight, and decent ruby color. Without food the wine is a bit dry on the finish the tannins are still there but not the acidity, but Aglianico is made for food, and we thoroughly enjoyed this wine... just wish I had a few more in the cellar! P.S. It throws a lot of sediment
