a difficult cork to remove, out in two pieces. this wine was fully mature with great fruit and balance. some tar, roses and clove spice dark fruited with a slight perceived sweetness A Real pleasure to drink

Lost my formal notes, so this is from memory: Excellent bottle. I would have no idea that this was so old: lots of funk, but some sweet dark fruit. The palate has similar flavors with great balance and poise - good acid. Maybe dropping off a bit at the finish. 17/20.

JB @ 28-50 (28-50 Marylebone): Deep garnet, quite dense. Nose of rounded and slightly diffuse dark red fruit. Initially quite rich before pulling itself in a little. A touch of coffee. Clearly old, but guesses were at least a decade on the young side. Plenty of interest here, butI preferred the more vibrant slightly trimmer 54, though the collective view was in favour of the 52. ****

(released August 1, 2012) Brick red with lightened edge, this has that tempranillo nose of faded rose hips and with more air, beautiful wood/forest notes. On the palate, this is a lightly pickled Rainier cherry resting on old parchment. Cedar and a hint of black pepper emerge with air. Over time, there's a disconnect between the nose (which gets more developed and nuanced) and the mid palate (which gets more astringent and singular). Perhaps with 10 more years, this will become more interesting. 92+

White Truffle Dinner at Yann's. (Yann's Place, New York, NY): Ruby-brick red. Cool nose of mocha and malt balls, marzipan, roasted dark fruit. Creamy entry with the same flavor profile as the nose. Great cool elegant mouthfeel. Not as exuberant as the 62, but better. Salty, stones, and citrus, minerals, plum fruit, cocoa and malt on the finish. Really classy and excellent. Reminds me a bit of the 1934 Tondonia. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 18/20.
