  • Produced and bottled by Luigi Oberto. Alc. 14,5%.

Translucent dark cherry color with a pale rim. Brooding and dark-toned yet very attractive nose with aromas of sunny, plummy fruit, smoke, floral perfume, some raisin, a little alcohol and a hint of cherry marmalade chocolate. Quite dense, chewy and full-bodied on the palate with ripe, rich and juicy flavors of licorice, sour plums, wizened red cherry, some smoke and a hint of raisin. Good depth and complexity. Quite pronounced, grippy tannins and moderate acidity, giving the wine a firm but enjoyably round mouthfeel. Long and quite sweet finish with rather powerful flavors of dark cherries, cherry jam, sour cherry bitterness, some plummy fruit, a little aged raisin character and a hint of stony minerality. Alcohol gives the aftertaste a hint of warm glow.

A great aged Barolo - probably one without much character, but as the wine shows great balance and lovely mature Nebbiolo character, I don't mind. This has never been and probably will never be a stunning Barolo, but for a wine at 26 years of age, it has kept its composition beautifully and probably can even develop a bit further in the cellar. A very well-made "basic-level" Barolo showing spectacular capability to age.
