Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Bought this for my 40th, but the day we heard Michel Lafarge passed, we decided that we would open in tribute to him. The bottle I had was allegedly a gift from Michel to a friend in Paris, from the domaine, and it was in his cellar ever since. The color, fill, and cork condition were all shockingly good. 1980 was tough, but people made some good wines, and this was one. Definitely still in condition, mostly tertiary notes, with some fruit, forest floor, mushroom, and a bit of this sort of orange/sweet and sour thing going on. Definitely not offensive to me, and all was held together with nice acidic backbone. Held with time in the glass as well, and tasted the dregs the next day. Lovely wine, from a wonderful man.
