  • Typical California fruit bomb. Extremly dark, with a rich mouthfeel. Jammy, with plums, bluenerries, vanilla and alcohol. Bold, flashy and spicy. Decent acidity balances a slightly sweet mid-palate. Tannins are very muted by now. Paired very well with grilled ribeyes with a spicy southwestern rub. The French would hate it, but hey, this is the U.S. and it's Memorial Day.

  • Very good fruit bomb. Benefits from a lot of swirling in the glass. I wouldn't hang on to it too long, probably at its peak or close to it.

  • Popped, poured, and sniffed: Whoah! What's that? Warm -> Overripe -> Possibly Rotten Blueberries, Thick Vanilla, and Mulled Cider. Interesting, not exactly pleasant, but I'm open-minded . . . Put it in the fridge after I read the label: winemaker suggests serving at cellar temperature. Then, decanted about 40 minutes. At just under cellar temperature, the tannins were flat and the finish lacked a bit, so I warmed the glass with my hands . . . then . . . the mouth, tannins, and finish were spot on! Nice toasted vanilla, anise, and dark berries; solid, forceful but not unbalanced tannins, good acidity. Enjoyable in the mouth and down the pipe. Nose was still jammy, though, could I say left-over jam? Reminiscent of elementary school days when I left my unfinished PB&J in the lunchbox, then opened it up two days later. Eventually the nose started to creep into the mouth, so I called it a night. Nice for a short window, just after decanting, even nicer if you don't mind super-jam. 82 Points.

Day Two: What a difference a glass makes! Day Two shared with friends in much larger, big, round Pinot Noir glasses. 1/2 the wine from previous night was carefully stored in a 375ml bottle with minimal air contact; bouquet was very similar to previous night after pop and pour. In the big glasses all that rotten fruit just dissipated! Paired extraordinarily well with a bar of 71% Dark Chocolate; the touch of sweetness further diminished the questionable fruit notes. 86 Points.

  • Dark and inky as usual with aromas of citrus, cherry, and vannilla. Full nectar with a bit of acidity. Jammy dark fruit and citrus with some spicy vanilla and anise. The finish is acidic with fruit.
