This came from a different source, so I had no idea of provenance. A little weird at first - had that telltale Detert nose, the one I could fall into all day, but the taste, besides being coiled tight, had this strange finish that was papery. Not cardboard, but that feeling you got when you were a kid and might have licked your homework. (Edit: just noticed that strange paper tastes are common for vintage Detert.) Decanted, and after 3 hours that papery taste was gone - it was just full on pleasure. Of course it doesn't taste anything like cab francs I've had elsewhere - if you'd told me it was cab sauvignon, I would believe you. This stuff ages so well!

Delicious classic Cab Franc profile - including that savoury herb note - but amped up to 11 because this is California. Wildly intense and dense. Decanting for a few hours before drinking certainly helped, but only by degrees. It had the stuffing to outlast any radioactive fallout caused by Little Rocket Man.

Corked. But the fruit, tannins and acidity were so powerful they almost overrode the wet cardboard. Almost. Drank a large glass anyway. There's a terrific wine underneath the cork taint. Hopefully my other bottle will give a better result.

Terrific. Has a few years left. You will never ever mistake this for Saumur Champigny -- way boisterous and satisfying.
