NobleRottersSydney - Alliteration night (Alio's, Surry Hills): [cork, 13.5%] {Greg} Decanted for one hour. Aging garnet colour. Aged nose; oak. Vanilla oak. American oak. Sweet oak. Did I mention the oak? Still, it’s very seductive oak. Coconut and aged raspberry swathed in oak. Big cuddly palate, not really complex; nearly full-bodied still after all these years, with soft powdery tannins (the oak is more flavour than texture now), and a big fluffy mid-palate to wallow in. Perhaps not a definitive expression of cabernet, but a lovely example of a big McLaren Vale red. Medium-length finish, tasting of, wait for it, oak. Ready now.

NobleRottersSydney - Wirra Wirra with Greg Trott (Darling Mills, Glebe): Still solid red – much the same colour as the 94 RSW. A little pongy on the nose – this was the only bottle that provoked a cautious reaction at uncorking. A spicy nose here too, which combines with loose brambly fruit on the palate. There’s still considerable tannins, and I think they make this something of a ‘doughnut’ wine. The length is medium, and the tannin is the last thing left. There is a component of Coonawarra in this wine, too.
