Medium with a deep ruby core and garnet rim. Pronounced aromas of jammy dark fruit, pepper, some savoury gamey and cured meats. Tannins are soft but high, balanced by the acid and intense flavours. Very long. This is not yet dead, very good drinking.

Pronounced notes of dried herbs, singed leaves, olives, touches of bacon fat, shriveled berries and dark fruit. Medium+ body with medium acid — it’s not quite as big as you expect from the nose. A nice core of fruit that’s not quite as complex as the nose, it finishes with some balsamic notes and a very subtle dried leaves and smoke note. Nicely resolved tannins, this seems like something you should probably drink now.

This is a clean, solid effort. Deep crimson nearing purple. There is a spicy nose of fresh berry, oak notes and lean red berry, leather and rosemary notes. Plenty of acidity and tannins but there isn’t any reason to hold. Drink with a good meal. I’d drink this any time and think it’s at peak.

(HERMITAGE Colombier) 2006 Hermitage Dear Friends, If the 2006 Crozes-Hermitage from Colombier is that good - what about the 2006 Hermitage? I think you could write this offer by yourself... If nothing else, this is probably the best overall price/value wine in 2006 Hermitage - you can have 6-8 bottles of this for every one bottle of Chave (and I don't mean Yann). Florent Viale was no less fastidious than his more famous neighbors and this 1991-a-like from a preponderance of Dionnieres has an elusive and seamless blend of power and finesse in the same sip (and whiff). This wine has an exemplary tannic structure and spine of crushed rock from incredibly precise and ripe Syrah fruit but its personality is like Queen Elizabeth rather than Henry VIII. It has a deft acid/extract balance and low alcohol - all of which should bode very well for the future. A triumphant success that spills its smokey, bacon-wrapped core of lightly cracked pepper and sauvage toward anyone willing to pay attention - it should be at peak around 2015-2020 and last for years after that. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as one of the stars of the 2006 vintage in Hermitage at a price abandoned long ago by the upper tier in the region. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance (I believe there are only 20 cases of the 2006 for the entire US as opposed to 100-200 in the past): 2006 Colombier Hermitage To order: niki@garaistewine.com Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7770

Dark fruit, developed, but will keep doing so. Better after 1-2 hours air.
