(GILLES ROBIN St. Joseph ANDRE PEALAT) On the Run Dear Friends, I'm on the run right now (literally) but this just hit the wire and it's a deal that's too good to pass up. This is close to 50% off (even from us) and it's the current release from a great vintage. I realize we've had oodles of Northern Rhones lately but there's no limit for Syrah of this caliber in my cellar. This is the top-end bottling of St. Joseph from Gilles-Robin, priced at the single-vineyard Cote Rotie level. It is way above their entry level Crozes-Hermitage "Papillon" or the "Alberic Bouvet" (both are between $20-25). The Andre Pealat it is their most limited wine (even more so than the 1920) and it is from a vineyard that is so top-rate, the grapes appear to be half mineral and half fruit. While tempting to try now, this wine is not for today - it requires 2-4 years in the cellar to allow buried strata to emerge (although it comes out on day 2 and 3 in an open bottle). This is another wine that cannot be appreciated in one sip at a trade tasting - it requires a slow song and dance drawn out over an entire evening: Only a few hundred bottles for the entire US (including restaurants). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and VERY RARE ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price: 2006 Domaine Gilles Robin Saint Joseph "Andre Pealat" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone7744
