Tasted blind. The nose was a bit tired and slightly medicinal with some red fruit coming through. Pretty tart on the palate with some stewed fruit and a rustic note on the palate. Medium finish. Not my thing.

I was a bit concerned about the "over-the-hill" reviews that I was seeing so opened a bottle tonight. Definitely mature but, at least this bottle, was definitely not over the hill. Medium bodied. Quite a bit of sediment on the bottle but still some tannin left in the wine. A bit hot but, despite the 14.3% alcohol, fairly well balanced. Black cherry and a lot of black olive in the flavor profile. I know this is California but I tasted some garrigue here as well. More Rhone than new world in taste. I will probably drink my remaining bottles over the next year but I still enjoyed this wine (and my wife, who generally does not like aged wines, also liked it.).

Bright and medium bodied. This isn't really a winter red, and I would suggest waiting for spring to open it, but I still enjoyed it. Lovely acidity and a completely gorgeous aroma that jumps out of the glass even in my cold living room. I would have liked to be able to serve this a bit warmer than the 64 degrees that my apartment allows in below freezing weather.

Needs about 15 minutes of air, but then it just blossoms with herbs, dark fruit, road tar, and a depth that is un-mineable. Easy to drink, as well as interesting to contemplate - this has fine balance, rich fruit and a sunny personality. More fun than a barrel of Grenache (and Syrah).
