  • Cork quite soaked about halfway up, rather crumbly in the middle.

Glorious nose of mature Syrah, lots of smoked meat and underbrush, cedar and olive. The palate has wonderful acidity with bright cherry notes. Quite lovely. On the downslope, time to drink up!

  • Records not handy. Bought 3-4 bottles16-18 years ago, likely from Sam's or Binny's, likely under 25/b; this is #2. Cork intact but a bit crumbly. Decanted with normal sediment for its age. Purple with amber edge; fragrant nose of ripe red plum and cherries, freshly rolled cigars; mature red fruits, cigar box, some new leather and smokiness; good persistence. Delicious! Near/at peak, lovely complex flavors. Glad I have more. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since arrival. My evaluation (see earlier posts for my 4-category, non-point rating system): This is outstanding- when considering quality, age, and price.

  • Still showing excellently. PnP for the first taste, then drank through the evening. Might have showed better earlier in the night. Beautiful crimson color, notes of cedar and cherry. Medium body. The wine has smooth texture and finishes long. Cherry, mineral and a bit of tobacco. Low acidity.

  • Very good, mature, old world Syrah. Did not have the big, dark fruit muscle up front like it’s younger cousins from the new world but showed lots of character on the nose and palate with a medium length finish. Had it with hangar steak and boar chops and it held up very nicely.

  • Smoke and tar, with pepper notes on the nose. Dense, extracted, inky, and somewhat muddled on the palate. Maybe a little passed peak. Likely to please the New World palate.

(FONTODI Syrah Case Via) Plethora Dear Friends, While not technically a plethora, I did enjoy the sound of the word so that is the title of our Friday send-off list. All below have perfect provenance and are at the lowest prices I can muster - some of the prices are pretty eye-popping. Have a good weekend everyone! - Jon Rimmerman ************************ Friday Focus Wine: 2005 Can Blau "Mas de Can Blau" (Spain) STRICT LIMIT 6/person Last year's 2004 Mas de Can Blau was a major hit (with Josh Raynolds as well) and the 2005 is even better. This is an extracted, large-scaled wine that is actually good. While I don't typically support wine like this, I think many of you will really enjoy it: ************************** 2006 Domaine de Chenevieres Chablis "Les Grandes Vignes" (Vielles Vignes) EXTREMELY LIMITED 2005 La Chablisienne Chablis "Le Preuses" (BH93) STRICT LIMIT 2/person This is in bottles - please be patient here. 1999 Friggiali Brunello Riserva 3.0lt (GR3) 350.00/1 (very rare bottle of hand-bottled Riserva from the best lot they had in the vintage) 2000 Fontodi Syrah Case Via 1.5lt STRICT LIMIT 2/person 2005 Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon "Pedregal Vineyard" 1.5lt (these are in perfect condition and have never sat on a store shelf - ever) 2006 Pierre Usseglio CdP "Deux Freres" Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Spain6320 Burg8860 Burg8870 Italy6831 Italy6832 CA8380 Rhone7410
