Wendouree Back Vintage Masterclass (Bishan): Tasted semi-blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is cloudy, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of green tea leaves, earth, bits of truffle, dark red cherries, dark plums. Developed. On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol (13.1%), smooth melted tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tea leaves, old green herbs, earth, sweet dark plums, dark red cherries. Long finish. Very good quality. Feels very classic. Like a well aged old school Bordeaux. Time to drink up before it gets too tertiary.

Drank blind with wine industry mates. Wine of the night. Surprisingly earthy nose, great fruit, balance, finish and length. An outstanding wine. Will go at least another 5 yrs. Sadly my last bottle.

I read the previous tasting note with interest, i have had exactly the same experience with youngish Wendouree wines. I am pleased to say that James Halliday is right, this wine has opened up like a top notch Bordeaux and is in it's drinking window right now with no sign of going backwards. It had a hard act to follow, the 2006 Syrahmi La La (see notes) and achieved success. It still has those minty characters but they are now more undertones than overtones. The fruit is a rich Damson / brambly flavour and, yes, the cigar box complexity is there in abundance. If you are looking for a great example of how tha Aussies interperet Bordeaux, this would do the trick.

Think I left this one too late. Flawless wine but lacking the zest I hoped it might have

What an incredible wine. Great fruit, balance, length. This wine would last another 10 yrs in a blink. A total pleasure to drink. Wish I had more.
