Been a number of years from my last bottle and this was noticeably better. Tannins are softer, fruit still showing good depth and indeed some freshness. It is chalky, plummy, lashed with some liquorice and star anise. A good wine here but the firm structure does need food to cut through.

Deep dark and purple. Stewed plums, chocolate, smoke, graphite and pencil shavings on the nose. Medium acid, but still tannic. Tertiary flavours of cedar, tobacco, leather, mushroom, forest floor with a hint of dark fruit. Medium finish.

Forgot I had this bottle. A quick glance at my notes from 2011 suggests I read it right. Fruits are now not winning the battle against the structure but that's cool - it's 12 years old from a lesser vintage showing plenty of class. Cool cabernet fruits, blackberry, inky berries, all wrapped very well into an old school BDX structure of long tannin and length. Got some years ahead of it just don't expect a fruit bomb. Looking a lot better than the Shiraz Malbec of the same year.

Casual bottles with the SLDS and associates: Blind. Vanilla oak, blackberry and chocolate mint. Palate has a number of issues - feels a bit flabby but at the same time shows signs of not being properly ripe. Awkward and structurally suspect.

TTTG (very brief notes) (Vernon, CT): A medicinal note on open calmed down with time. Big, ripe. Eucalyptus, funk, herbs, red fruit. Very weird wine.
