  • Cork broke but none lost... thrown a lot of sediment. Nice aged deep purple with browning edges, very long legs with granularity. Surprised when the nose reminded me of an '85 Calon-Segur but with a bit more California brightness to it, maybe that is easier to tell than I thought! Opened with mostly tannin, wet earth, truffle nose with faint dried fruit. I was afraid it was past peak. about 2 hours in the glass and more fruits appeared, blackberry and cherry, still very dried with some faint cedar notes. 24 hours in the decanter and much more dried fruit, with a caramel note on the nose, fruit much more apparent on the midpalate. dry tannins on the finish, very dry. probably passing its peak or past, but still elegant and subtle. Not a current fruit bomb kind of wine. Had a variety of cheeses to taste with it, but it really needed a meat to pull more out. Wish we had had some venison and pheasant like when I had it last!
