  • PNP with some floral notes, and black fruit still remaining on the nose. Great mouth feel with soften tannins a well balanced finish with some backbone remaining. The short drive home resulted in some improvement in softness indicating this won't improve much with additional aging. Drink up if you enjoy some fruit with a bit of gripping tannin.

  • From a half bottle. Opened the bottle up and allowed it to slow ox for a hour before pouring. Initial aromas were slightly mellowed and very subdued despite being a Napa wine, showing some earthiness, black currants, and black plums. With another 30 minutes in the glass, the aromas became bolder and grew into a higher intensive wine. Supple med tannins, great acidity to balance the fruit, no noticeable heat. A great half bottle, I would say this can be held for longer, but if drinking today give it a little air.

  • I’ve had some luck with older vintages of this and figured worth to see it younger. It’s drinking pretty well for the youth. Much more restrained than fortunate son. The realm of La Jota in style but more spring mountain so a bit less dark and brooding and a bit lighter in style. All enjoyable.

  • Cain Vineyard and Winery Winemaker Lunch (City Club FW): I didn't buy this one when first offered, because it is a fire year. But I'm glad I was able to taste it today, because it is a good wine. It is maybe more approachable than the 2014 Cain Five tasted next to it. It has the blue fruit, pine tree, woodsy nose, but more red fruit and cherry on the palate. The tannins were big though, and this needed more steak. This has years ahead of it, and could be like the 2006, that is so good right now, but maybe at the precipice of dropping off.

  • A Bordeaux for sure. Great job. Old world flavor on new world soil Decanted for a couple hours. Smells earthy just like a Bordeaux in my opinion. Flavor last quite a while but it’s more of a subtle flavor than an intense one. Very dark in color with a fruitier aspect than I would expect. I get a light hint of spice on the mid pallet. Overall a very well put together wine. I don’t have any in this vintage currently but I do have a few in the year prior. Can’t wait to see what they will reveal in the future. Until then......
