  • Transparent, radiant medium ruby red. The colour still looks young but with a noticeable, medium wide watery rim.
Nose: Raspberry, wild strawberry and smoke. Then (after some airing) mushroom aromas.
Taste & palate: Very intense taste, rich, mature but very lively fruit, bright acidity and finally the typical Koehler-Ruprecht almost spicy mineral taste (presumably from the chalky soil of the Kallstadter vineyards). Long finish / aftertaste.

It has style and structure and quite a bit of finesse (or as a previous taster noted: "present, lively and precise"). Perhaps a bit surprisingly though for a Pinot Noir with so long bottle ageing it doesn't display much tertiary aromas (except for the mushroom).

This wine is mature but will last for several years (drink by 2018-2020?)
All in all a great 15 year old German pinot noir! I wish I had another bottle!
