Tasted blind over dinner. Medium garnet. Rustic and ripe nose here with sour cherry, red berries and sweet spices, some dried fruit. On the palate lots of structure, lots of tannins but they are well supported by the fruit. I think Fourrier has managed this well for 2003, done what is possible but of course the airiness and elegance of this Cru is not on display in a Canicule vintage.

You've got the darker, richer fruit of the vintage but it shows a transparency and purity that reminds me of 2002. Plush texture shows a bit of weight but there's sufficient density to the dark-fruited flavors to maintain balance. The 2003 Clos St Jacques is very good.

PNP, paired well with roast chicken. Should drink well through at least 2021.
