  • Copper/amber-gold with oxidation. A big fat nose of (singed) orange peel, brioche, super rich and deep crème brûlée; all that phat, ripe-year goodness occupies the glass with the authority and grandeur of a corpulent sultan seated on his cushion among his harem. The palate mirrors the nose, showing lots of oxidation, a moderate, fading mousse, beaucoup hazelnuts and tremendous richness; it has tons of character, but is certainly ready and then some. It finishes with a lovely cedary length of orange peel and mouthwatering Champagne oxidation; and more custardy crème brûlée, forever. Flat out terrific wine. (For Sammy's birthday dinner at Bâtard, which was also great.)
