Very deep color for a '96. Expansive, woody nose that shows heavy toast surrounding a core of fruit. Lively palate that shows less oak than the nose suggests. Much better than past bottles as the fruit is very nice though the texture is too rough. The elevage of this wine is just wrong - too much and overdone oak. Too bad as there is some nice stuff here. (90 - for absolute quality versus personal taste)

Oops! Most certainly opened this one too early. I thought I was grabbing "Les Herbuottes" instead...
Well, this is a super dense and structured red Burgundy. Still pretty much closed down but I'm guessing good years ahead. It has been open for 12 hours now and showing a nice nose of red fruit with a bit of spice and subtle oak. Pretty tannic in the mouth but not overly acidic as some of the '96 wines are and quite thick. Almost veering into the "Syrah" style of red Burgundy which might be showing a bit of over extraction but can sometimes walk that line. If you have one, I'd say wait another five years at least and see what you have...
