Decanted 2 hrs ahead. Dark ruby color. Blackberries, currants, vanilla, cola on the nose, with some alcoholic heat. It's earthy and musty besides the fruit, which is good. On the palate, it's very full-bodied. Is it jammy? Somewhat. But it does have a certain syrupy quality that comes from intense fruit and moderate acidity. Licorice and iron filings in the finish, ahead of light tannins. This is Lodi (and I like Lodi). It's intense, even monstrous. But it has an earthy and ferny quality that keeps things interesting. With this wine I had a grass-fed rib-eye with a cilantro/cumin rub; it needed it.

Great fruity nose of dark fruits and berries but the alcohol on the palate disrupts the flow of the wine's flavors. Not very complex and sinlge-minded.

Ripe blackberry, raspberry, dark chocolate with that edge of tropical earthy citrus on the nose. The palate has juicy fruit with juicy black current, blackberry, dark raspberry, with that earthy edge and herbal side touching on the back of the palate and finish. Deep and rich but buoyed by decent acidity and braced by spicy background tannins. Spicy, luscious, balanced food friendly zin. This did not bottom out and drag my palate down. Was not an overly alcohol laden fruit bomb. Zin - full and classy.

(St. Amant Winery Zinfandel Old Vines Mohr-Fry Ranch Vineyard) At not quite a year old, this wine is tighter in the nose—give it another year to bang out of the glass, as the ’06 is doing now—but the sweet blueberry- and raspberry-jam aromas are more than evident, underscored by vanillin oak and hints of peppercorn spice. Nothing hidden on the palate: huge, plump, brimming flavors of raspberry jam, densely packed with generous, youthful tannins; and nothing but fruit in the feel: lush, juicy, and dripping. Will be better next year and up to 2011. Terroir: Mokelumne River

Very jammy and overripe fruit - good wine if that's your style but it lacked any personality.
