  • Colour still deep but showing maturity, feels a bit sweet and solid, fruit is elegant but acidity bit harsh and elevated and tannins a bit dry. A bottle from a forgotten case purchased on release. I’m sure more recent releases would have much more finesse, this is good wine but not thrilling. Drink up.

  • From 75cl screwcap. Going, going... but not quite gone yet? A mere six years after the vintage, this still has the astonishing raspberry-and-cream entry I noted 2 years ago, but despite the intense acidity what dominates is a pretty monolithic rose-water-sweetness. On the finish quite a tannic grip. No, it isn't a masterpiece, but the potential is there, and in some years as the vines mature Cornish Point may yet deliver some of the finest Felton Road wines, i.e. the very best NZ PN on offer. So grateful to have tasted this wine seven times since January 2010, and looking foward to trying the first of my 2008s. 2nd day (vacuvin + stored in a cool place): yes, drink up. This now tastes like a mediocre Beaune "1. Cru" from an average producer in a ripe year. 87-88P(?)

  • From 75cl screwcap. Distinct orange fading to rim. Promising raspberry-cherry scent, but the entry is a bit tired and cloyingly sweet, the mid-palate flabby. The finish picks up again: long rolling acid-pinot fruit... minute after minute. Could have been great but for the doughnut effect (hole in the middle). 89P

  • Exquisite pinot. Previous TNs still accurate, but this wine is nearing the end of its peak drinking window (I think). Perhaps 5 years of good form to show. The scent is still beautiful - raspberry-dominated; the entry gorgeously exciting and pricklingly acidic; but the finish is a little short. Best on opening, at 16C - two hours and room temperature did it no favours. 91(-92)P

  • Wonderful material here, consistent with previous TNs. Tonight: less creamy and silky than the last bottle, but literally vibrating with exuberant fruit-acid-savoury energy on the palate. Perfectly still, of course, but as hedonistic, energetic and enlivening as a heavenly blanc de noir Champagne. 91P
