Unlike its sibling "Les vaucrains", the "vieilles vignes" proved to be less balanced. Medium to full bodied, fresh cherries, liquorice, cedar, leather, menthol and herbal aromas. Significant acidity in the finish. Contrary to the usual pairing recommendation our Saint Emilion Faugères 2000 (cf. separate tasting note) was a much better fit.
