Truly lovely and a tremendous treat to try this since the last time ~10 years ago. A unicorn of a wine (Never Released), about an hour into the dinner I sniffed my glass and was just mesmerized at the beautiful nose of fresh raspberry compote with wonderfully mellow "Cayuse funk" notes singing harmony. Given there was '97 Chave in the glass next to it I loved comparing the two all through a many hour dinner and in any given moment the two competed for my WOTN. I really hope I get another chance or two to enjoy this bottle in the future.

Charleston VII; 11/2/2022-11/6/2022 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): So not entirely sure that I got this wine right because this is basically a unicorn and it's maybe the Wallah Wallah number 1 or 2 but this was in CT so taking a shot at it. This was classic Cayuse. Very funky and bright and some fruit and all garrigue and game and maybe even just a hint of those old bandaids.

This had changed quite a bit since our last taste almost a year ago. The great nose was still there except a little more mature. I think the palate is finally catching up the massive nose. A deeper, darker, and more complex palate with those Ranier cherries getting a little less sweet. Nice dose of pepper, a little vanilla, citrus, proscuitto, and some smoked veggies. Would love to sit down and enjoy a whole mag of this over a day!

My third experience with this wine. You've got to be kidding me. The 2nd time I had this wine I bestowed upon it my first ever 100 points. Maybe I need to adopt Parker's new scoring system and give it 102 points this time as it was that good. Funkdified on the nose with herbs, sour fruit, bacon wrapped pork (double pig, baby!), and that dried pineapple thing that is so intriguing. Layers and layers of syrah goodness on the palate. This is essentially, for me, syrah as its best.
