Magnum. Quite remarkably, a lighter colour, weight and flavour profile than the very powerful 2004 tasted the other day. The kinship is clear however. Slightly yeasty, a harmonious wine but actually also a bit low and fruit and tension. Expertly made but has not escaped the heat completely and seems to have faded already.

Bright crimson colour with fine beads that last long, nicely befitting a supposed natural Brut that has aged over the years. Rich in grapes and aftertaste, whilst giving a toasty, oaky depth that makes for its age. Splendid!

We tasted this blind next to an Old Walls 2005 from Devon. Both tasted younger than their vintages would suggest. The Moet was very disappointing. It had caramel and mousse but was quite flat with no complexity at all. the caramel came through more strongly as we went firther into the bottle The Moet was noticeably darker than the Old Walls with 48% pinot noir. We were surprised when the bottle was revealed. Standard Moet is getting a bit like bog standard anyman champagne now since the takeover. We would not buy this for the money. Go for something special or not al all.
