  After tasting 1997 last year which was in a decline state was skeptical about this vintage as it doesnt stand even close in its general rating. Well it actually is still in good state and has more to show than ‘97. Medium red colour fading towards pale orange rim. Intense aroma of leather, dry leaves, dried cherries and plums, licorice, medicinal notes, sweet tobacco, tar, old wardrobe. Medium body, silky smooth entry continues to tertiary flavoured mid palate, fruitiness is faded so as tannic structure showing some powdery structure, concludes with long smoky finish.

  Mature Brunello. Surprisingly little bricking. Ruby colour. Characteristic sour cherry, dried herbs, grated reggiano. Obvious significant oak treatment now restrained with age. Though enjoyable, I suspect its best years are already behind it. Drink up if you still have well-cellared bottles.
