  • Subsequent notes on this wine from a year ago. Medium-deep reddish garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & raspberries with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes of roses, minerals, spices, tobacco, truffles, leather, cocoa & cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, mulberries & pomegranate with earthy, minerals, cocoa, spices, leather & cedar. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing. At 18 years of age, it is either at or close to its peak of development but should hold here for quite a while longer although any further development may be minimal. Fill was in neck above the DOCG paper band; cork was clean & intact. A more elegant style of Brunello which has aged quite well.

  • Descriptively, prior notes are not incorrect. There is nothing unattractive about this wine. It presents an elegant expression of Brunello well suited to pan roasted quail on Wednesday nite... or maybe pork chops. But... when Friday arrives with a good burger... open some 2008 Monsanto Chianti Riserva. I am underwhelmed.

  • Similar to the bottle I had in the spring. This wine is still very much alive and drinking well. Fruit on the nose leading to a palate of dark cherry, tobacco and leather. The finish was moderate.

  • My last bottle from a case bought on release. In the context of the vintage, only okay, but that said, on a Monday night with pasta at home, certainly acceptable. This wine has an abbreviated finish, and an unremarkable nose. But there is still an adequate mix of black & red fruit on the palate.
