  • Made with grapes harvested in November. Fermented and aged for 10 months in oak barriques (10% new). 13,5% alcohol.

Deep bronze-orange color with a pale golden rim. Very intense, complex and developed nose with aromas of wizened peach and dried pineapple, some acacia honey, a little bit of saffron-driven exotic spice tones, light nutty tones of roasted walnuts, a hint of burnt sugar and a touch of lemon curd. The wine is sweet, full-bodied and remarkably intense on the palate with flavors of wizened peaches, canned pineapples, some saffron, a little bit of dried apple slices, light smoky tones, a hint of tangy green apple, a nutty touch of roasted walnuts and subtly bitter undertones of burnt sugar and pithy grapefruit. The wine is remarkably high in acidity, keeping the wine very firm and focused despite its noticeable sweetness and relatively big body. The finish is long, complex and very intense with medium-sweet flavors of leather, honeyed richness, some pithy grapefruit bitterness, light tertiary nutty tones, a little bit of maple syrup, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of mushroomy funk.

This is an exceptionally balanced, concentrated and complex sweet Jurançon that feels like it is now at its plateau of maturity. I can imagine the wine will keep beautifully for years - maybe even decades - more, but seeing how impressive, complex and quite tertiary it is at the moment, I doubt there is going to be much further development from here. Extraordinary stuff. Drink or keep.

  • Jurançon et les vins de Charles Hours (Bruxelles, Le Vin Passion): Nose similar to the 96 cuvee Marie, oxidation, notes of Caramel. Still drinkable but past it.
