Community Tasting Notes (2) Median Score: 84 points

  • In the 90s Rosemount was in the vanguard of those tasty and consistent Aussie wines assaulting the stuffy preconceptions of the "old world order". It is, at least in part, thanks to wines such as these that global quality has risen so dramtically over the past 2 decades. But that was 20 years ago and I don't think I've touched one of Rosemount's clear and simple labels since. So how have the years and change in ownership affected the wines? Have our demands for increased quality left this in its wake?

Pop and pour is the only way here so... Good clarity, colour screams pinot. Bright cherry nose shows good fruit and strong pinot character again, although a little simple and dumb. Starts with a confident fresh attack, but falls apart a little on the mid and lacks real balance. Finish is tough and ironically struggles for ripeness. Not a disaster and for a "branded" pinot it's certainly palatable but that eminently gluggable juice that made such waves in the 20th century is but a shadow of its former self. I feel like a tourist walking around the ruins of a medievel castle. In it's day it was the number 1 kid on the block, but times move on...

  • Deep garnet color, 80% opaque. Spicy cherry with a touch of cinnamon and maple on the nose. Soft attack and moderate fruit flavors of plum, black cherry, some cola and vanilla bean. Medium-light body, medium and well integrated tannin, average acidity. Simple finish of short-medium persistence. Can see why it is a popular house wine as it has wide appeal, drinks well young, and can match with almost any food. Went very nice with rack of lamb. (4+10+14+6) = 84
