Very nice mature Northern Rhône. Open up nicely, violets, lavender and smoked meats. Medium bodied, with classic notes of dark fruit, and savory bacon fat. Slightly short finish. Paired nicely with grilled tri-tip and goat cheese salad. Lacks the depth and complexity of a higher end hermitage, and gives the impression of just starting to fade but very enjoyable nonetheless. Drink up as I don’t think further improvement is likely. Decent QPR, and I believe the producer is making better wines these days due to a significant investment from one of big houses (Chapoutier?).

K&L Rhone Tasting (K&L Los Angeles): This is my tasting note from the K&L Tasting. Soft nose of bacon and violets. Not as much white pepper on the midpalate as the Jean-Michel Stephan Cote-Rotie. Soft acidity, and essentially no tannin on the finish. Very clean and elegant wine, which was drinking very well right now.

Drank this twice today: once in the K&L Rhone tasting, where it convinced us we should buy some, and then again at dinner---side-by-side with a 2010 Syrah from Davis Family Winery. This was just drinking wonderfully. Not as expressive as when we tasted it earlier because the first time around it was double decanted and had been in the bottle for about 4 hours before we got to it (I will post a note for that separately). The second time around, it was popped and poured with about 30 min of air, and vigorous swirling. Nevertheless, still showed very well. Very soft on the finish, with essentially no tannin visible. Beyond the hints of meat and bacon, there was very interesting secondary of leather and earth. Great acidity on the palate, and paired very well with Lebanese food. Held up well to some of the dishes with a little bit of spice.

A little disappointing - too hot on the nose and palate despite an hours decant. Slightly candied prune. Slight chemical taste that didn't blow off. Quite light not overt tannin but just too much heat on the back of the tongue. Shame

Bright in the glass. Balanced on the nose, no overt heat. Notes of plum and fish. Oak on the palate and smoke (toast barrels?). Innsum the fruit fell away quickly after decant. Think I will leave another year.
