Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Ripe, jammy, slightly baked red berry, slight pepper, sweet spice, smells quite dense. Juicy, smooth, clean, floury textured wood over grape tannins, slightly alcohol warmth on the finish but well controlled. Nice, especially for the rather ripe vintage.

Decanted for 3 hours. Blue berry. Boysenberries. Cassis. Hint of black licorice on the finish. Paired great with smoked duck Shepard’s pie. Last bottle. Drink up.

IWS reprise (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Initially gamey and meaty, there is ethanol here as well as roasted red and black fruits. A little cream, caramel and vanilla beneath this as well as baked earth and garrigue on the nose. Juicy, savoury, meaty, earthy, dark hued fruits tends to plums, alcohol warmth is present but not intrusive, tannins are drying but silky, rosemary and a little lavender on the finish. Good.

Medium dark red color. Dark fruits, tar, meaty, and spice bouquet. Mature, but no need to hurry. Mature dark cherry flavor. Smooth aftertaste.
