  • Red fruit, tobacco, old shoe leather and dried herbs come together in a classic brunello style. At age 19, this wine is in a perfect drinking window. Elegant, yes, but the acidity let’s your palate know that the wine is still alive and vibrant. Great juice.

  • Dark fruit, tobacco, old shoe leather and wild herbs come together in a fantastic Brunello. Great balance between the fruit, oak and alcohol. This is an outstanding wine in every way. At age nineteen, this wine still seems youthful. With a brief decant, this wine was open for enjoyment immediately. Great juice.

  • This was nice, and very different from younger BdM.
Colour: dark burgundy to garnet .... browning on edges. Thick looking.
Aromas:Dark drying berry fruits and cherries. An herbal component (like a bitter cherry compote with medicinal herbs mixed in), vanilla extract and spices. Smells gnarly and mean .... not soft and elegant or austere or anything else. It just smells like it wants to take you for a round.
Flavours: Dark drying berries, medium-ish acidity. There is no tartness here, but more of a balsamic/black tea/berry sauce (not sweet).
Mouthfeel: Tannins are in the background but still grainy and drying. Thick feeling, but not thick. This has a presence but you can also sense the age is getting nearer the end.
Overall: Enjoyable but not in that elegant, cuddly, smooth, style. There is a butchy feel to the wine ..... its not giving up even though its nearing its end. Its spoiling for a fight .... so I have some leftover for tonight. Let's do this ..... ding, ding !
The wine does get much better with some aeration.

  • P/P; modest nose; nice mixed red fruit, rhubarb, and some earth; Not overdone, but the mid palate is full. Elegant one minute, then a bit of rustic acidity the next. Good typicity for the vintage. My fave style of brunello

  • Fragrant the first 20 minutes after opening, but then shutting down. I'll wait another two years to open the next bottle.
