Cherries and blackberries on the nose, and in the mouth too. Solid tannic spine holds the fruit together beautifully. Excellent balance and poise through the palate, with an impressively long finish.
Still has a good few years of aging potential, but why wait any longer when it is drinking this well.
Chosen to match with venison, served with a blackberry glaze, and this was a very good match.

Pop and pour with filter Nose: strangely a familiar young perfumed typical Penfolds plum with slight cooling, Nice Palate: silky tannin, rich plum, berry and interestingly still young and plenty of years left. Mellowed tannins but still fresh and rich in berry earthy notes. Dry with only slight sweetness at the end palate.

Screwcap Colour: still very red deep dark clear Nose: dark blackberry savoury leatherly Palate: ok still plenty of fruit style and perfumed. Still a few more years to go. Very well cellared. Unfortunately doesn't get to try the next day profile.

Very dark shade of red with medium plus reflectivity and high optical density. Confectionary red fruit on the nose, with some aromatic flowers and spices, but dominated by sugared red berries and quite simple and light in intensity. On the palate, it shows full body with a dense texture that is glossy and palate-coating. Medium acidity and lacking some freshness, this seems past prime for sure. Confectionary sugared red berries and light spiced florals for flavours, pretty even from attack to midpalate, after which some prune and old woodsy flavours converge to a finish that is short and a bit sweet.
This is not a wine profile I enjoy, and it is also past prime, so this earns a below average 78. Not a flawed or necessarily poorly made wine, but made in a style that is not aligned to my tastes. Huge pass for me obviously!
