Full, deep ruby colour. Opened and poured. Nice, quite full, rounded fruit in the dark red to blue-black spectrum, initially reminding me of malbec though the first sip reveals more acidity and a better structural balance. Curiously this is smooth on its own but give a distinctive alcoholic burn when drunk with food (no sign of this after food is finished). Seems better than the previous bottle (3 1/2 years ago) - come in to balance again. Half left overnight is quite lush ans smooth, still with good balancing acidity. Really quite pleasant. ***

Nice, but not particularly memorable shiraz for the money. Starts with a sweet currant and berry fruit nose, almost overpowering. Opens up and mellows out nicely in an hour with a smooth and pleasant character throughout.

don't agree with previous reviews. This is good example of an aged Barossa shiraz. Measured blackberry and plum, hints of licorice and cloves, creamy vanilla oak, cedary notes in the background, smoke. Very supple, refined palate with resolved tannins, raspberry, plum, no sweetness, floral notes as it warms up. Long finish. Excellent

Sweet vanilla scent whilst decanting; nose of vanilla and fruit confiture. Sweet vanilla on the attack, some fruit, and an hot finsh that burns the throat slightly. A little too oaky and without the fruit stuffing in the middle. Comes across as a little simple, drying out and too hot. Only managed a couple of glasses and then couldn't be bothered to persevere. Sadly I have a second bottle of this. Judging by the Jeremy Oliver guide this is the least good vintage and needed drinking a few years ago - I can well believe it on this tasting. Did it ever have the fruit to coverthe alcohol though? Ouch, I paid £30 for this! Half bottle left in decanter - maybe the alcohol will evaporate overnight?!
Hmm, 18 hours later this is a lot smoother with a less noticeably hot finish. Had somethng else planned for the evening, so will try again tomorrow night after it's had longer to consider itself.
After half the bottle has had 42 hours in a decanter it's really not too bad. Alcoholic heat has almost disapeared, the fruit hasn't diminished, the oaky vanilla flavours seem to have calmed and it's showing more acidity to balance things and make it food friendly. Not the most complex of wines (and IMO not worth 30 quid), but I'll decant the next bottle at breakfast ready for drinking in the evening to give it a fair chance.
