Bob’s cellar. Fine delicate red, no bricking. Delicate and fine nose, aged Shiraz fruit, raspberries, earth, blackcurrant cordial, cherry kitsch, lovely. Flavours are muted, slight redcurrant tartness, tannins are very distant (most were encrusted on the inside of the bottle), interesting. Day 2 and this is lovely. Refined and delicate. There’s a tiny prune note, it’s fresh, anise and Christmas, red fruit. Very good. 40 years old and drinking superbly.

Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Dusty cellar stink initially then, with time, blackberry, leather, earth, sweet spice, alcohol prickle lenes a touch of spirituousness & a smidge of pepperiness. Juicy, fleshy, very slight tomato leaf joins the black hued fruits that are a little dried out. Tac textured tannins, savoury with leather, earth and non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish.

Simply wonderful big Australian hunter river aged Shiraz. Clearly this bottle while gracefully aged it could go for a long time to come. The cork was crumbly but sound the wine had half an hour in a decanter then we drank it. Sweaty saddles, sweet stewed plums, raspberries, soft dry tannins, twiggy, dusty, complex developed secondary. Fascinating. How often do you get to try a 40 yr old wine with lots of life still in it.
Very deep red, cherry and aniseed notes, bouquet of red earth after rain, or faintly of a tack room, nice ruby color when held up to the light. We all loved this wine. 90 rating

Deep garnet in the glass, showing HUGE sediment. Like sediment I have never seen in my life, probably 200ml of it. Smells fully developed, no freshness on this whatsoever. Perfect storing condition, so no flaws to speak of. Aromas of dried plum, blackcurrant, coffee, tobacco, wet leaves and tea. Medium-bodied, developed and soft tannins with medium acidity. Nothing enjoyable. This developed years ago and is really not showing much character now. Impressive to have on a wine list, but way overpriced for the stage it's in.
