Community Tasting Notes (10) Avg Score: 94.5 points

  • Was curious and surprised by the rating it has. Knew the winery for a while, just had no occasion to try this earlier.. What a wine! Acidity is bit on a higher side, but what a finesse. Very red fruited, full of exotic spices, some flowers, meaty aromas, and some hardly to identify notes that I liked. I was blown away by its balance and flirt between elegance and Nordish power, finesse and savory profile. Will buy it again, and by cases, if possible. For sure, it's not a fruit bomb or some full bodied monster. So I understand low scores for it as well (if people are rating from personal taste point of view, not from more technical overview of complexity and balane of this wine). 2006 is so much more interesting on N. Rhone than 2007..

  • Just a fantastic wine. Heady cocktail of aromas encompassing red fruit, flora and fauna, with a little earth thrown in for good measure. The palate comes at you in waves. Medium intensity fresh dark fruit, blood, iron a touch of fennel, violet, truffle. Did I mention the balance? The complexity? Shape shifting as it accommodates roast chicken and trimmings. I really think this is the best red of the year so far. And then I looked at what I paid for it and think what a bargain it was... Well done, The Wine Society and boo hiss that I have no more.

  • Stately and mature, this is a profound wine with a nose that sends you elsewhere. Silky polished dried fruits with a halo of varnish. The savoury spectrum is stunning - truffle, game, dried blood. Everything is in harmony and this is at that stage between becoming properly old wine and retaining vibrancy in the fruit. I agree with other reviewers that this isn't going to improve, though I suspect there could be a plateau for a couple years. The tannins are fine and integrated, so best stay on the safe side and drink. Oh and do have it with grouse - it was probably the best pairing of the year.

  • A more considered note. Outstanding, mature, Cote Rôtie. Pronounced, complex nose. Dried bramble, dark cherry, black pepper, liquorice, smoke, game, earth, black olive, hint of tomato ketchup (where did that come from?). Fully developed. Dry, high acidity, medium fine tannins, medium alcohol, med body, very elegant and supple, pronounced flavours similar to the nose, long finish. Drink now, not suitable for further aging. It’s fully mature and drinking beautifully now, but I expect the fruit will start to fade soon.

  • From memory. Classic, fully mature Cote Rotie. Leather, dried bramble, black pepper, bacon, barnyard. Medium ripe tannins, high acidity balancing the fruit. Drinking beautifully but suggest time to drink up.
