Solid Bordeaux in a nice early drinking window. Fairly integrated fruit and a bit of pencil and leather. No rush but also not a crime to open one now (probably thanks to the vintage)

2 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Earthy w/ dark fruits and butter (odd...but that’s what I’m getting) with very subtle funk and floral traces. Palate: Soft yet very present tannins with dark/black fruits, spice and earth. I’m of two minds on this wine. On one hand for a + $100 bottle I hoped for a bit more in the way of complexity metrics, but on the other....the wine is so damn seductive and feminine at this stage of life. Not really sure how long to age, but for my palate my last bottle will be drunk up within the next year or two tops. 91+ points.

Dave’s birthday dinner at Alderwood in Santa Cruz.
Bramble and dark red fruits on the nose.
On the palate, dried fruit dominates. Tannins nicely integrated with bright acidity.
A nice, but somewhat underwhelming at this stage.

Short decant. Great flavors, body, and finish. Drinks great right now.
