This is a really great wine. Those who say Aussie wines, especially Clarendon, die with age never tasted this one. Raspberry nose, palate of vanilla, classic grenache raspberry, and a bit of cherry. Some leathery age on top of it. The raspberry comes out more as the wine warms a bit and gets some air - it was a bit too cold coming out of the cellar and the flavor was subdued when it was popped and poured cold. This is an outstanding wine that has an excellent strong but balanced flavor profile. It is not sweet, it is not syrupy, and it doesn't belong on a stack of pancakes. It's wine, it's really good wine, and I wish I had more of this.

Blueberry and black fruit nose.. deep and powerful. No elegance here. Still a bit "hot" on the palate.. but suprisingly that shows only for a moment upon entry into the mouth. Then a licorice, viscous, black coating flavor dominates. Definitely bold, but very silky tannins as well. Long (30-45 sec) finish. Noticably lacking some of the strawberry/raspberry I like in Grenache, but a good "different" wine. Drank by itself on this occassion. Meal in a glass anyways. Will hold the other bottle for a bit.. if I can.

Académie des Cinquante Ad Bibendum Australia Tasting (Restaurant De Hooge Heerlijkheid, Middelharnis, the Netherlands): Relatively reticent nose, hint of liquorice; intense, elegant and refined, good weight; good length and style, needs time.
