ASX group. Decanted and rebottled 2 hours early. Drinking well . Good fruit but maybe just a little dominated by tannins . Will drink my remaking bottle soon. Regards. Merv

{cork, 13.5%} I believe this is a procork; there seems to be a sort of membrane surrounding the cork, noticeable only at the bottom where its bubbled where it was in contact with the wine. interesting. The wine doesn't seem to have shifted much from the last note five years ago. It's dark in colour, dark-hued and curranty in aroma, barely showing much development. There's a hint of chocolately oak too, but beyond that it's just black and ripe. The big failing of the palate is the finish, which fades away rather too fast. The wine avoids heat, and shows typical new world - not overblown - cabernet characters - but despite the medium-weight there's still a stressed quality to it somehow. The mid-naughties were drought-ridden across much of Australia; I'll swear that there's a strained character to this which mitigates against positive aging; the fruit seems exhausted somehow, leaving a fine but pronounced tannic structure protrudily bonily in the glass. Just misses the mark somehow, and I'm not so confident about future cellar life either.

Pyrenees Wineries' Visit (Pyrenees, Vic): {cork, 13.5%, A$48} There’s very little development in the aromas of this wine. The nose is very much of a different character to the shirazes; pure dry cassis with a herbaceous touch is right in the classic cabernet spectrum. Fine iron-like tannins mark it as a wine of stature and emphasise the structural aspect which is the dominant feature of a quite shy wine in the absence of any development. One to hold.
