Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.5 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 6 notes)

Tasted by mpricher on 2/5/2010 & rated 90 points: Dark crimson red in the glass, semi-transparent. This has some candied fruit, and tart cranberry juice profile on the nose with a little floral bits. no oak to be heard from. Solid Red fruit on the frontal attack with some rhubarb pie on the back end. Very smooth and drinkable CDR style blend, with enough grenache to smooth out the syrah. Not a QPR at our price point, but very enjoyable and food friendly. (115 views)
Tasted by Dmeunier on 2/5/2010 & rated 80 points: Still a bit young; however, it was very drinkable. Will try again in a year and see what it's got then. (127 views)

Tasted by mreinitz on 12/7/2009 & rated 88 points: Fruity, juicy, and a little sharp tasting. Liked it but didn't love it. (402 views)

Tasted by RPerro on 9/12/2009 & rated 90 points: Oregon Wine Country Tasting (Willamette Valley, OR): I typically love the Sinister Hand Rhone blend (62% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre), and 2008 is no different. Showing it's youth, definitely, but going to be a great wine for sure. Black fruits, pepper, and nice mouthfeel. Can't wait to pick some up for a vertical... (560 views)

Producer website

With vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest, Owen Roe, named after a 17th century Irish patriot who dedicated his life to political equality and freedom, is owned and run by Jerry Owen and David O'Reilly (winemaker). Their aim is to source only the very best fruit from top sites in Oregon and Washington, handle it gently in the winery, and produce wines of superior balance and quality.
From winery: Our primary source for this wine is Dr. Steve Elerding’s vineyard in the Horse Heaven Hills, where the proximity of the Columbia River is a vital part of the success of these traditional Rhone varietals. This wine is very dark with fruit flavors, pepper and an excellent texture. The blend is 62% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre.

About red wine
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
