Dallas 2nd Wednesday Group - September 2010 (The Green Room, Dallas, Texas): Tasted at a wine dinner. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Beautiful nose of Briar patch, leather, berries, a hint of smoke and some freshly roasted coffee. Flavors of black cherries and black berries. Medium acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink over the short term. 91-92+.

I don't know if it's over the hill or just not that impressive to begin with. I found it extremely Bordeaux-like meaning devoid of fruit, stemmy, earthy, lots of shoe leather, pine, cigarbox and forest floor notes. Blind this could have been easily picked out as a 4th or 5th tier right bank wine.

20th Anniversary - Huntington Beach, California; 6/30/2008-7/10/2008 (Huntington Beach - Paradise House aka Joe's Pad): Still some strong tannins running through this rich, deep and dense Merlot. A nice piece of winemaking. Dense ripe Merlot fruit. A bit of coffee and anise in the nose and palate.
