A near pinnacle Syrah experience. Perfectly balanced from first pour and held its own over two hours. Amazing deep plush with fresh saline tang and no ox.

This was a frustrating experience. The first 30 minutes it was everything you could wish, but then it was pretty tight and never again showed its glory although i was very patient and decanted it severel times. This would be like 94 p. initially and later 91-92 p.
Initially this was very intense on the nose, first pretty earthy, but later also with olives, tobacco, tea flavors and black fruit. A big wine with a nice attack and blackberry ending in a pretty long finish with some acidity. This might be closed at the moment or maybe its beginning to be over the hill. If i had another bottle i would wait, i dont think there's anything to loose.

Started off really musty and borderline corked flavours. But with 30mins air this blew off to reveal a very elegant resolved hermitage. Reasonable length and depth given the vintage and seems like falling off soon

Earlier this year I had a (wine) life changing experience when I drank a bottle of Le Méal 1999 by Chapoutier. That was my first Hermitage, a truly amazing wine. Since then, I've tried to acquire some more bottles by this producer as long as they're reasonable priced.
Back to the wine: I got the bottle in an auction. It was in a perfect shape. We opened the bottle approximately two hours before serving and decanted with Optiwine. It was served with grilled meat.
I can related to the previous note on the Burgundian character of the wine. Integrated tanins, medium bodied and medium finish. Wood, cured meat and mushroom aromas.
Overall a rather underwhelming if enjoyable wine, but perhaps my expectations were too high. In any case, give the wine a good decant!

(M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon) Lavender, vanilla, creme brulee nose; very tasty, elegant, lavender, black fruit palate; long finish (group's #1 as well)

Hard to judge this one.
