Formerly known as "Three Rivers", the Chris Ringland Shiraz is considered by many to be the leader of the pack when it comes to Aussie Big Boys. It differs significantly from Ringland's other bottlings as it leans more to Old World charm. Naturally, if you seek Hermitage quality in Barossa, be prepared to loosen the wallet a fair bit.

Dried plums, blueberries, chocolate, licorice, and a touch of floral in the nose. Blackberries and black cherries in the flavor. Still had a nice deep color. A well balanced wine with a very long finish. Would not have picked this out as Australian if it was tasted blind

This was opened and drank at home with one hour of decanting. The wine was clear and garnet red (with a slight tinge towards brown) in colour. It had a strong nose of blueberries, some grapes and a slight hint of coffee to it. The most pronounced taste was of assorted berries and some cherries as well. The tannins and acidity were quite muted and enjoyable and the spices were not overly strong at all. As this was my first bottle of Chris' flagship wine, I don't have anything to judge it against but I quite enjoyed drinking this.

Dinner at Tetsuya's: Dark chocolate, cinnamon, tobacco and blackberry aromas. Huge power on the palate from the fruit, but there is more to this wine than just intensity, spend some time with it and you find layers and I think it has a certain class to it. For me this is a touch behind the 1999 and the unreal 1990, but it is still a great wine in it's own right that will benefit from more time in bottle.

Wonderful nose of cherries, mint, and mocha Extremely balanced and complex well made wine that has an extremely long finish Overall the quality is very high; this is what good shiraz does after a few years in the bottle If blind I would have guessed France
