Nice muddied ruby color - it shows age but very gracefully. Mature nose with leather, but also lots of blackcurrants and oak. Nice acidity, wonderful fruits on the palate with dark cherries and currants, cocoa beans, some bell pepper and licorice roots, some leather; grippy tannins, and a long, lingering finish with oak and spice. Excellent aged Napa cab - still very much fruit driven but very elegant and developed now, with well-integrated flavors. A pleasure to drink - I would say at peak now but there is no rush to drink.

Drank side-by-side with the 2001 (both in magnum). This one has significantly less oak and more notable red fruit. Tannin structure pretty much fully integrated at this point. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Still alive and kicking as I finished off my last older vintage of Hourglass. A purple plum posse takes you on a ride to a blackberry and black currant patch, where you can sniff acacia and heliotrope. Fully evolved and should be drunk. Actually, surprised how well this textured and full bodied lady has held up.

I have opened one of these every five years or so and this is the best one yet. I love the way the top 02s are drinking right now. Still has beautiful fruit, with soft dry tannins and very lush texture. Even better on the second day which suggests that it will last for a couple more years at least. Sadly my last bottle of this beautiful wine.
