Served blind with disclosure of vintage and varietal. Most guessed a balanced style of cali Pinot. Took a little time to balance, but once it did I thought this was a really lovely wine. Great tart and earthy fruit, with a spicy smokiness that I greatly enjoyed.

DIY BYO Dinner - Notes from another taster (Amali, NYC): Served partially blind from magnum, we were told it was Pinot Noir from 2008, but no information on the region. Tart cherry with some spiciness and a nice finish. The juicy quality led me to believe new world, but the fact that it was served blind hinted at perhaps some more obscure origin. Having recently been to Patagonia, it is indeed cool climate and I found this to be an interesting example of the broad range of wines being made in Argentina.
The nose showed a floral red fruit display with candle wax and chalky minerals keeping it earth bound and interesting. On the palate, I found pure red fruit, and an inner floral perfume and earthiness. The finish was long and satisfying. This was a perfect example of Pinot Noir done well from Patagonia, Argentina.

(Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir Cincuenta y Cinco) It’s nearly impossible to choose between the three Chacra Pinots, but for complexity and value, the winner has to be the Cincuenta y Cinco (“55”), from biodynamically farmed vineyards planted in 1955. A gorgeous, bright-ruby core leads to pronounced aromas of damp earth, citronella, and pure red fruits that, with air, explode with sandalwood, musk, and exotic spices. Endlessly intriguing, the wine combines a sweet entry with a savory finish and a weighty frame with a surreal, satiny texture. Pushing For Pinot in Patagonia

Lots of fruits, some flowers, some minerals. Firm tannins, medium body, good finish.
