  • This wine was driven by dark plum. Tannins were fairly well resolved. Chris preferred this over the Bordeaux from the same vintage, just wanted a little more gentle and doesn't show quite the herbal notes.

  • Osso buco night at the Atsumis. Last bottle, and still singing. Only a short one hour decant. A little more primary than expected at this stage. Light nose. Sound plum with earthy backdrop on the palate. Tamed acid and tannin...nice balance. Medium finish. Perfect match to the OB.

  • decanted 3 hours, a bit of browning around the edges. Nose was a rush of fruit on initial pour, but settles in with some nice leathery notes on top of the red fruit. Loads of sour cherry and green strawberry fruit with an interesting rose petal like taste. The fat from the meatballs at dinner cut through the sour notes nicely making a nice pairing of a fully mature Barolo. At 6 hours the sour drops and the sweetness of the fruit comes out a little. Very nice.

  • This was so in the groove last night. Popped and let sit 30 minutes before dinner. Healthy color: maroon/red, slightest bit of bricking. Nose is rather tight initially. At about the one hour mark it just pops: the nose shows plum, roses, dark cocoa. The palate is detailed with cranberry, tar, earthy -coffee notes, with a long penetrating finish that is cool and steely with wisps of acidity and a lingering licorice note. Drank well for the 4 hours it was open. Very, very good.
