what's going on? Everyone seems to have hoarded this wine and pulled it out in 2020. And no wonder. It is a cracker. Lovely lemony zest. So fresh but interesting. Amazingly the white seal under the screw cap 'popped'. My last one sadly...but I have a 2005 to look forward to.

Yellow not golden colour. Initially a slightly reticent nose but there was no shortage of palate depth or flavour. Citrus, complexity, dryish, long finish. No signs of falling over at 16 years of age, I think this will last a long time under Stelvin. Crisp at the core but softening at the edges. No kero notes of too old riesling at all.

Flavoursome Riesling. Browned lime, lemon, talc, apple, lightly toasty, a delicately sweet honey and a steely spicy core.
Similar flavours in the mouth. Still quite sweet-fruited but dry palate. Medium weight, yet it spreads out on the palate giving the impression of fullness. Good length.
Opinion: Youthful. In a nice place, though there is some development potential remaining. Mouth-watering.

A beautiful riesling- fresh colour, still clean and crisp with lime, and citrus but it had also developed a honey note with excellent expression of terroir. Drink now but can go for another 7+ years.

Very reduced at first strong smoky scents. Once decanted the aromas open up revealing bruised lime, peach, smoke, musk sticks and potpourri.
Dry, pent up acidity gives good shape to the wine through the palate and finish. Lacking a bit of fruit freshness on the palate but has weight. Browned lime, hints of lemon, and a gentle toastiness.
Opinion: after five days the nose has opened up with stronger aromas including some Germanic tropical notes. It certainly hasn’t faded. Seems to demand air time. Leave alone for another five years and try again.
