Super dense cork. I really had a struggle putting the cork screw and ah-so portions of the Durand in. And pulling it out took plenty of effort. Which is why the wine drinks more preserved than aged. still very darkly fruited in color and expression. Very dark for Zin even. The label description describes how they were quite happy with the vintage in terms of growing. This clocks in at a robust 14.4%. Jut hints of oxidation and no bricking that I can see. Pure dark berry fruits. Still fleshy with coating tannin. A great vineyard in its prime, classic winemaking and some tough corks make for long lived wines. In this state this wine has a long way to go. This bottle is damn tasty though. And its kinda rare to see 88's from California in the auction markets at all. A wonder of a bottle.

EFFERVESCENT APPEARANCE, VERY DEEP COLOR. DEFINITE LEGS. LEATHER, LICORICE, AND MINT IN THE NOSE. DEEP BERRY FRUIT IN THE FLAVOR. ALSO RASPBERRIES. RICH CHARACTER, LONG FINISH. 1ST TASTING = 90
