I've drunk many bottles of this wine over several years and I had hoped it would improve - but it never has. This really was, as others have said, overextracted - and there was absolutely no need to do so in 2005. The fruit has nearly all gone, leaving harsh tannins. A great shame really.

14%. Medium to dark red with a black core. Classic cedar and pencil shavings nose. Still grippy, but lean and a little hollow in the back. 15 sec. finish. Food friendly tartness, liquorice in the finish. Still drinking very well, and could go a few more years, the benefit, I guess, of good storage - bought in 2009 and kept temperature controlled since then. Went well with cassoulet.

This bottle of Meaume drank far better than the last two - great value for a basic Bordeaux Superieur. Deep ruby, with ripe, fleshy dark cherries and blackcurrants dominate the nose, with a pleasant woody and pencil shavings smell reminding me that this is an old-world style. The tannins are now much better integrated and sit nicely with the abundant ripe red and dark fruits. A short finish is all there is to remind me that this is a £6 not a £30 claret.

Now fading fast. Pleasant enough but time to move on.

Deep, thick ruby color. Sweet fruit and some wood. Rather harsh, with liqourice in the finish. An overly extracted wine.
