Opaque purple as expected to be. Focused and not very expressive nose with smoke, spice, blackfruit. Less concentrated than expected. Velvety but not very rich with zesty acidity, medium + ripe, solid and clay textured tannins. Medium full body with medium+ length. Very spicy and peppery, bursting with fruit but on the elegant side.

Some Ports, mostly Martinez (Roy's): nose: cigars were very prominent, and behind it was a little bit of fruit. Both Chris and Dorene got grapefruit, which initially I couldn't understand, but over time, the thought grew on me, and I decided there might be a bit of that in there too. I also got some caramel, though overall, it was not a pretty nose. palate:thick, red and black fruit with intensely powerful tannin. The taste was far and away better than the nose. Pretty good stuff in the end.

Vintage, Tawny, and an 1890s Colheita Port: Floral notes on the nose. Tight tannins on the approach. Tannins ascend through the mid-palate and the fruit lingers deep into the long finish.

Intense jammy nose. Sweet plum, some candied notes, dark berries and raspberry jam and vanilla.
